Mary Kay: Hi Dave. What is a 'De Facto Standard'?

David Powell: A De Facto Standard is a specification that has not been officially recognized by an accredited agency, but is accepted and used as a standard by a majority of practitioners. Typical creators of De Facto Standards are individual companies, corporations, and consortia.
