Announcer: The e-Learning Lingo Podcast.

Mary Kay Lofurno: Hello, this is Mary Kay Lofurno, Marketing Director here at SyberWorks. Welcome to the 105th episode of the e-Learning Lingo Podcast Series. Last week Dave Powell talked about Open Source Software. This week Dave defines Emergent Literacy.

So I ask you, do you know your e-Learning Lingo?

Mary Kay: Hi, Dave, tell us about Emergent Literacy.

Dave Powell: Emergent literacy is the idea that learning to read or write does not develop quickly, but occurs in many small stages that individuals experience through early childhood. The process begins naturally in at-home activities like talking and reading. It then continues in classrooms, where more formal strategies are introduced.

Mary Kay: Thanks, Dave. Sounds great. Have a good afternoon.

Dave: You too, Mary Kay. Talk to you soon.
