Employee training tips for small business owners

Engage employees on the level they perform best.

Engage employees on the level they perform best.

As we discussed in a recent article, employee training ranks at the top of many small business owners' goals for 2015. However, there's no "one size fits all" solution for different organizations. Especially for smaller companies, you need to tailor your training programs to your organization's needs and those of your individual employees.

Here are some rules you can follow for maximizing the effectiveness of your training programs, from Nicole Fallon of Business News Daily

  • Training is particularly important within small companies. As Robin Jarvis, principal of HR solutions provider R.L. Jarvis & Associates explains, training is a key component of keeping your employees engaged and interested in their work. Training is not only about familiarizing employees with the work they will be doing, it's also about making sure they understand the company mission, and how they are an important part of it.
  • Engage your employees on the level they like best. For Jason Rivera, CEO of salon franchise Phenix Salon Suites, having your employees sit in a big meeting room to watch a lecture is not the most effective method. Instead, Rivera tells Fallon, "Our philosophy is to engage our people at the level they perform best at, and provide complementary education that will assist them to become the best they can be."
