Training can help maintain FDA compliance

Employee training can help businesses stay in line with FDA regulations.

Employee training can help businesses stay in line with FDA regulations.

Federal regulations exist to protect employees and consumers from potentially hazardous conditions that could occur in, or result from, an improperly run workplace. For industries producing pharmaceuticals or food products, it is especially important to be aware of and in compliance with regulations and standards as determined by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Since the FDA conducts inspections to determine whether businesses are keeping up with requirements, the necessary compliance training cannot be overlooked.

A bakery in Delaware was cited by the FDA for violations resulting from inadequate building maintenance and sanitary procedures that led to conditions that could cause contamination of food. As a result of repeated violations, the business was labeled "high risk" by the FDA, according to Delawareonline. The business is taking steps to bring its operations in line with regulations. If the bakery had implemented an employee training program, it could have made sure employees were educated about the correct sanitary procedures that would have helped them maintain compliance with FDA standards.

As the FDA has set in motion the Food Safety Modernization Act, businesses will be subject to new rules and regulations and the possibility of increased inspections, although the FDA has noted that they may need help maintaining compliance and have asked companies to work on voluntary compliance.

Employee training is an essential part of a company's ability to maintain compliance with FDA regulations. With e-learning courses and a learning management system, businesses can create tailored programs that will ensure employees have the knowledge and procedures that are required for a safe and compliant workplace.
