Companies have a responsibility to keep workers protected from hazards on the job. In some industries, this may not be too much of an issue, but for manufacturing businesses, keeping up with workplace safety can be a challenge. Businesses are under a lot of pressure to meet supply demands and deadlines, and in some cases, training may fall by the wayside in an attempt to stay more profitable.

It was reported recently that a sugar production company received several violations from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). A company in Billings, Montana called the Western Sugar Cooperative was found to have committed 17 safety and health violations, some of which were repeat violations. These offenses can carry a high cost — the company may have to pay as much as $193,300 in fines, according to a press release

It is worth noting that violations like these can be avoided. Many pertained to safety precautions, including not providing workers with information about equipment such as respirators. With training, workers become equipped with the skills they need to safely perform tasks.

Not being in compliance with OSHA standards can be costly in terms of employee health as well as the productivity and profitability of your company. An investment in training is a small price to pay for ensuring workers are equipped with what they need to know to correctly perform the duties they are tasked with.

A learning management system makes it easy to streamline the training process. With this flexible, scalable solution, companies can implement comprehensive programs while keeping costs down.
