Hospital plans to implement employee training to prevent future data breaches

Training can keep employees informed about company policies that deal with sensitive information.

Training can keep employees informed about company policies that deal with sensitive information.

Hospitals have a lot of ground to cover when it comes to training. Not only do they have to ensure employees are in compliance with federal regulations, but it is essential that steps are taken to safeguard sensitive patient health information.

When confidential information is involved, organizations must protect this data. Organizations like hospitals often have policies in place to protect patient medical records, but sometimes data breaches occur.

It was recently reported that medical records at a hospital in Oregon were viewed when they shouldn't have been. An employee of ProMedica Bay Park Hospital was found to have accessed medical records of hospital patients over the course of a year, but had no "valid business reason" for doing so.

According to a press release, the hospital is taking measures to prevent a circumstance like this from occurring in the future and employee training will play a role in these efforts.

"Bay Park Hospital is taking precautions to prevent any further health information breaches. This includes additional training for employees to ensure they understand and follow patient information access policies," the hospital said in a press release.

Not only was patient privacy violated, but the data breach could have potentially damaged the hospital's reputation. Training can help protect sensitive data and keep employees informed about important company policies.

Hospitals and medical facilities can benefit from a learning management system that will help manage this process. A learning management system provides a scalable way to manage programs, ensuring that organizations are able to provide the training employees need to keep a workplace safe and in compliance with policies and regulations.
