Fiberglass company fails to provide adequate training, receives OSHA violations

It is essential to provide workers with training to handle hazards on the job safely.

Although worker safety should be a top concern for every business, sometimes it falls by the wayside, opening the door for accident or injury. Not only can this create a potentially hazardous situation for employees, but in the event that the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) conducts an inspection, your company could be found to have violated compliance issues, an offense that could result in costly fines.

It was recently reported in an OSHA press release that a company in Ohio that manufactures fiberglass was inspected by OSHA and found to have committed several violations. Perry Fiberglass Products is a manufacturer of fiberglass tanks and pipes. There are inherent risks involved in the creation of these products, and it was found that the company did not provide adequate training to allow employees to conduct their jobs safely.

"Overexposure to hazardous chemicals can cause serious health effects, and workers deserve to know what hazards they are working with each day," Kim Nelson, OSHA's Toledo area director said in a press release. "It is the employer's job to protect its worker from these hazards. This company's history of OSHA violations shows that they don't take that job seriously. That is unacceptable."

While some employers know the benefits training can bring, such as compliance with OSHA standards, the implementation of a program can seem daunting for some. However, with a learning management system and e-learning courses, you can provide comprehensive skills training across your organization, while staying within budget and in compliance with OSHA standards.
